Today, I am going to write a somewhat short post on how beautiful a man is when he gets his grammar right.
Yes, i know. Of all days... and topics to talk about, I chose this one. Don't blame me, i'm all girl and my moods are just so weird sometimes. Right now, I want to talk about men and grammar and my mind has refused to think, or acknowledge anything else.
*sigh* my mind wants what it wants.
Okay... Grammar
Grammar is important. It makes up the languages we speak. There's nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, adverbs... the lot... and these make up a lot of the words we use when we communicate. Hence, when you are formally learning a language, they take you through the nouns first, then they take you through adjectives, then verbs, then everything else supposedly falls in place.
So, we all struggle to learn and get it right, and speak it right. Girls are apparently good at languages, more so than boys (i beg to differ because i know a guy who is better at languages than I. He picks them up so fast, I am actually jealous). Learning a language, or languages isn't easy, and even after we are done, we still keep learning new words and stuff like that.
You can imagine how disturbing it is to have worked that hard: studied, done exercises, pushed your noses into all sorts of dictionaries, just to meet an attractive guy who can't even speak or communicate right. It leaves you wondering what you ever did wrong to the world in your past life.
I know that some people will tell you that you don't need to know someone's language when you are In love, but what if you are not in love, and all you need is a toilet? A plate of food? A way out of the dead-end you have been chasing?
Kenya has two languages: English is the official language, Kiswahili the natioñal language. Why then do we find even journalists can't speak either language right? It means that someone somewhere gave the go-ahead to kill language. But who is that?!
I have a lot of people I can blame right now: parents, teachers, fellow students, friends and even the rules our tertiary institutions run on.
However, the biggest reason has to be social media and/or media.
It is so irritating dealing with thr 'Xaxa generation.' They put 'x' in everything, shorten words based on pronunciation and not common sense, add 'e' to everything they mention and the worst? They are so confident it is so cool and so the 'in' right now. It is irritating trying to figure out what they text, and it can spike your blood pressure.
A good example of an irritating 'xaxa generation' thing is 'bdw' which apparently means 'by the way.' This could easily be acronymed as 'btw' instead, but no, they have to turn 't' into 'd.' Anf just so you know, 'bdw' is actually 'by da way' for them. Seriously, we speak English, neither pidgin nor creole nor jamaican.
I really hate these fake Jamaicans now. They ruined our national language.
Teenage years are very impressionable to the young, and If you don't enforce the right language skills they'll be a mess if they ever cross the international borders. They'll be a mess if they go to campus and their language skills are so bad, they can't write a simple introduction in a report.
Once in a while, I meet a guy who can text something you can actually understand. It is a really great feeling having a NORMAL conversation with someone who can fluently write and speak English and Kiswahili. Even if they use the acronyms, they make sense because you do know what they're talking to you about. When such a gentleman asks me out, it takes everything to not combust and fall into tiny ash specks.
Sometimes a guy is not exactly handsome, but his speech and conduct are a major turn on and all you want is for them to stay in your life and scare away those 'e' and 'x' users. The only thing 'x' should be used for Is in representing an unknown value In an algebraic equation. That
and in words like 'extra' or 'xerox.'
That's why we all want an Englishman in our lives, yes ladies? They have the accent going on, plus the language is their mother tongue. Plus their sarcasm and chivalry are a thing they probably always have. Some of us watch BGT or Xfactor because of Simon Cowell. We all want a man who can make you laugh, be a gentleman, and speak right. Nothing is better than keeping the lines of communication in a relationship open.
